GMO

GMO the problem

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

Overview
There can be no coexistence between GMO and natural organic crops, because GE crops permanently and irrevocably destroy organic crops.

Nature provided food even before humans existed. We would not exist as a species if it were not for certain plants. We have evolved over millennia because of and in relationship with our food. All animals need plants to live and heal. Even if an animal eats other animals those animals eat plants. Animals depend on plants for life.

There is an complex, interconnected relationship between animals and plants, on all levels, that has developed since animals appeared on Earth. To alter and poison the very DNA of plants, which not only negatively and permanently affects plants but animals as well, is a crime so huge there is no name for it.

It is extreme hubris to think we know enough about the totality of life’s interactions to safely alter the very core of life. To impose control and permanent altering of the very essence of life for short term mercenary, political, or any other reason, is beyond folly, more like ecocide.

GMOs
GMOs are genetically modified organisms. They are made in a laboratory. They are transgenic. They violate Nature’s species barriers by crossing plant with animal or virus or pesticide. Tomatoes are crossed with fish, goats with spiders, corn with pesticide, to name a few.

The very process itself causes harm to animals. All GMO contains antibiotic resistant genes, which could lead to medical antibiotics becoming ineffective.

GMO DNA does not always get destroyed by stomach acids. It can stay in your gut and replicate. It is like having a pesticide factory in your body.

"Several animal studies indicate serious health risks associated with GM food."

Nature provides many species so if one plant dies off there will be other similar plants available. Monsanto wants a world food monopoly so is buying up seeds and destroying them, contaminating natural plants with GMO and destroying them. This reduction in biodiversity along with being immoral is putting our food supply in danger and in the hands of Monsanto.

Uncontrollable and unpredictable GMO crops such as alfalfa and sugar beets spread their mutant genes onto organic farms and into non-GMO varieties and plant relatives, and should be halted. GMO threatens the very existence of natural and organic plants, that humans and other animals evolved with.

In America just the right to know what is in our food is not allowed. 98% of people want GMOs to be labeled, but efforts to label our food has been blocked by lies and threats by the industry.

In close to 50 countries including Australia, Japan and all European Union nations, there are significant restrictions or outright bans on the production of GMOs because they are not considered proven safe. (Hungary recently discovered some GMO crops growing in an otherwise untainted field and subsequently burned the entire field to rid themselves of these dangerous invaders)

What GMOs do
• Permanent irrevocable contamination of natural and organic food, and other natural plants by terminator gene and cross pollination.
• Increases toxic pesticide use, adding more poisons to the ecology, contaminating the land, animals, farmers and consumers. Makes a need for increasingly stronger (more poisonous) pesticides.
• Cause superbugs and super weeds.
Destroys the ecology, negatively impacts the soil and ecosystems.
Increases water use. GMOs typically require a lot more water than non modified crops.
Causes soil erosion.
They destroy biodiversity. Has been shown to kill off beneficial insects, like the monarch butterfly, bees and others. Monsanto buys up seeds and destroys them. Destroys biodiversity of whole regions.
• Damages or kills other animals that eat and are poisoned by the GMO crop itself, or animals that rely on plants that GMO kills. GMOs destroy the biodiversity of a crop.
Not safe to eat both, for animals and people.
Scientific studies have been suppressed. Industry studies are rigged.
• Doesn’t increase yield.
Destroys consumers freedom to choose what we eat.
Creates a monopoly of food and other natural plants.
Destroys organic and natural farmers.
Destroys seeds and biodiversity.
Damages democracy. Monsanto is now above the law, they are not subject to the US judicial system.

Please take action...
There are bills in several states to require the labeling of GMOs in food. Please contact your state congresspeople and tell them to support, or introduce such a bill.
